HTF RARE Polynesian Pattern 664 Big Bertha Pyrex 4 QT Casserole w/Lid. No chips, scrapes, flea bites, fading or cracksExcellent conditionI tried my best to get clear accurate pictures. Please feel free to ask any questions. You may also message me for a video. It features a Polynesian design in multicolor, a 045, 4 qt capacity, and comes with the lid. The item is round with a diameter of 11-1/2". The big Bertha’s are one of the biggest casseroles dishes made, only a few other prints made in this size. This antique casserole dish is original and was manufactured in the United States by Pyrex.Excerpt from Pyrexlove com“We don’t know too much about this unusual sized item (let alone if it was promotional or not). In fact, our knowledge at this time of writing is based upon a single instance. There has been some speculation that it may have also been a factory test piece that was taken home by a Corning employee. Corning did manufacture these deep 4 quart / liter casseroles in various patterns - they aren’t as uncommon as we thought before. We’ve seen them in Butterfly Gold and Spring Blossom Green and they also apparently made them in Snowflake Blue, Homestead and Old Orchard). The pattern is a really interesting maroon and burnt orange collection of symbols including waves and flowers that almost look Polynesian (hence the name given by Merebearlandon) For some reason, it sort of reminds me of the lid of the “Sol Flower” Promo Casserole that we had found earlier.The casserole is marked as #045 and has both the metric 4L and 4Qt which leads us to believe it was made in the 70s. RARE Vintage JAJ Pyrex Colourware Sprayware Near Complete Refrigerator Dish Set
Colourware, commonly called Sprayware, was launched in 1939. A limited number of items were produced in the Streamline casserole range, in the colors jade green, powder blue, and canary yellow. Whilst this product was an exciting new entry into the market for the Jobling customer base, the range was taken out of production that same year due to restrictions placed on a number of manufacturers leading into the war years. Post war years, the Colourware range was relaunched in 1952 and included new items such as mixing bowls and refrigerator dishes. The refrigerator dishes were offered in the same sizes as the American PYREX equivalents, however the clear lids were slightly different and stamped with the JAJ crown as well as the word PYREX. Similar to the US models, these were also numbered 501, 502, and 503. Initially these dishes were available in yellow, blue, green across the small, medium, and large sizes respectively. (Excerpt From the book "Dots and Diamonds: Your Guide to International Pyrex" by Stan Savellis) This set is EXTREMELY hard to find, I have not seen but 1 complete set for sale in the past 10 years of collecting. The paint is commonly called Sprayware due to the translucent "sprayed on" paint, unlike the American refrigerator dishes.ONLY PART MISSING IN THIS SET IS THE LID FOR THE 503 (an American 503 lid will fit this perfectly). There are flaws to this set, very common with this type of paint applications dishes I will try my best to describe everything I found, please look at pictures as they are more of a better indicator. 501 (A)= Flea bites to paint, small areas of paint loss around the top edge. Wear to bottom lip which is very common expected 501 (B)= Small chip to bottom lip, flea bites to paint, wear to bottom lip which is very common expected 502 Flea bites to paint, some rough edges along top edge. wear to bottom lip which is very common expected 503= Flea bites to paint, tiny knicks around the top outer edge, like rough edges. Paint loss to bottom of dish, which is very common expected Lids= no issues to lid.
